SUMMARY:AIA Post-Disaster SAP Training - 6.08.12
DESCRIPTION:AIA Spokane will be hosting the AIA Post-Disaster Safety Assessment Program Training (SAP) this year. The date of the training is scheduled for Friday\, June 8th\, 2012. Architects\, Engineers and Building officials are encouraged to attend. The Safety Assessment Program utilizes volunteers and mutual aid resources to provide professional engineers\, architects and certified building inspectors to assist local governments in safety evaluation of their built environment in the aftermath of a disaster. Rachel Minnery\, AIA\, is the chair of the National AIA's Disaster Assistance Task Force and will be the instructor for this program. Rachel has led groups of volunteer architects to disaster-stricken places including Haiti and Mississippi and co-founded Architects Without Borders Seattle in 2005. DESCRIPTION:Bring your kids down to Riverpark Square or volunteer for the 2nd Annual "Play with your food"!    This hands-on activity for grade school kids introduces them to building components and the elements of architecture.  Using food items for construction materials\, participants will design and build a structure\, and collectively build a community.  This even is open to the public and drop-ins are welcome.  Bring your kids between 10:00am and 4:00pm Saturday and stay for half an hour or more to participate in this fun activity.  Projects will be on display for the remainder of the week\, and winners will receive prizes for creativity and craftsmanship.
