PRESS Architecture – Junior Architect

PRESS is an award-winning architecture firm based in Spokane, Washington. Since establishing the office in 2021, the firm has quickly grown its portfolio including multifamily, light industrial and advanced manufacturing facilities, retail, adaptive reuse, and custom single family. PRESS has also established itself as the Inland NW’s leading mass timber design firm.

PRESS is seeking a Junior Architect who is ready for the next step in their professional career and development.

Every employee takes on a multitude of positions in our office. Responsibilities range from concept design investigation and presentations to construction documentation and consultant coordination. The person in this position will work alongside the Principal and Senior Architect – and will be responsible for coordination with our BIM Specialist.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required – in addition to design and graphic representation clarity. Opportunities to support the firm’s growth abound – which may extend to office visualization, modelling standards, and client outreach. Everyone leads from their position; how we lead is key to our success as a practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Architecture; a degree from a NAAB-accredited program is preferred

  • Positive progress towards architectural licensure strongly encouraged

  • Preferred minimum 3 years of professional experience in an architectural office; alternative experiences are welcome but must show a strong understanding of project development and architectural design.

  • Strong design and graphic skills; clear communication

  • Be inquisitive, nimble, and collaborative

  • Proven history of critical thinking and design exploration

  • Proficiency in conceptual design, space planning, construction document development

  • Be knowledgeable of and able to navigate and implement building and energy codes

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Interior Designer with exceptional design skills, the ability to work in our collaborative studio on a variety of project types and sizes, design leadership, and the ability to mentor other interior designers. If you are a great communicator with strong conceptual ideas and have a passion for design, you may be a good fit to join our team. Through research, observation, collaboration and storytelling, the Senior Interior Designer will help us continue to grow our successful practice.

Responsibilities

  • Engage our clients through meetings and presentations

  • Develop programming, space planning, conceptual designs, design development and production

  • Contribute to the execution of overall design concepts and finish palettes through all phases of design, in collaboration with studio lead and other designers

  • Coordination with technical team and consultants

  • Engage with our teams on construction administration as needed

  • Provide mentorship to other interior designers

Qualifications

  • 10+ years professional experience including a proven track record of leading the design of large-scale projects such as K-12 and Higher Education facilities, Sports + Rec, Healthcare, or commercial/mixed-use projects

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from an accredited program

  • Experience required in all aspects of interior design including concept design, programming, space planning, color and material selection, documentation, graphic presentations, material research and selection, and FF&E selection and specification

  • Revit experience required. Working proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, SketchUp (or other 3D software) and rendering skills a must

  • Excellent design and graphic skills, with the ability to conceptualize and design complex projects from pre-design through construction documents phases

  • NCIDQ certification strongly preferred
